Our "Doors of Venice" poster features iconic symbols of Venice - its portali. Serving to distinguish the structures to which they were attached, portali signified wealth, power and importance to Venetians. Prevented from elevating themselves above one another in obvious ways, wealthy families turned to subtler methods, like the construction of portali, to convey a sense of eminence to the greater community.
